Ride Quad Bikes and Segways

Visit the Ugly House

This is a real gem to visit! The Ugly House a cottage full of mystery and legends; nobody knows when it was built but we do know about some of the people who lived here. This goes as far back as the 1900s, where John Roberts, a shepherd, used this as his accommodation. It was just a single room with a large fireplace, with a ladder to the roof.

Other people who called this home include the Rileys during the 1920s to the 1960s, improving the house by installing bedrooms upstairs. Edward Riley and his wife Lilian welcomed many visitors into their house during the years and entertained them with great tales about their funny pet cockatoo – which you can read about even today!

It was rescued from a very run down state by a group of volunteers in 2010 and now remains in their care.

Visit Abergwyngregyn

A small but beautiful village, Abergwyngregyn has a great history and can be found in the Carneddau mountains in the valley. Located in Northern Wales between Llanfairfechan and Bangor, it offers picturesque views of the village and the surrounding nature landscape.

The history of Abergwyngregyn goes back more than 4,000 years and was once home to royal prices. It’s a beautiful tourist destination today, located right by the Snowdonia National Park.

You can enjoy the picturesque trailers along the shore and all the way up in the Carneddau mountains, before enjoying a relaxing walk back to Aber Falls. If you want a slightly more challenging trail, go for the Falls circular walk!

Our Llanrwst Vacation in Northern Wales

A mini north Wales adventure with the familia to Little Llanrwst. Travelling on a staycation in the birth of the COVID generation year 2020 was a necessity we enjoyed so thoroughly it’s inextricable.

Stuck in a small bedroom where we slept, worked and hung out for over 4 months with no more than 15 minute walks to get necessities or loop a mini local park where everyone would scowl from beneath their masks at each other and fear, panic and distress stained the air- the back to the safety of our home.

A breath of fresh air was quite literally what the doctor ordered! And the beautiful green rolling hills of Northern Wales were happy to gift it to us in its plenty!

I have to say, a hiking adventure with the family was a first for the Ellas family. They’re far more used to rivers and beaches – basically experts in water-based holidays. So it was a new experience for them.

Enjoying Local Cuisine

A great place to enjoy delicious local dishes is Bodant’s Welsh Food Centre in Tal-y-cafn. You will look over the beautiful River Conway and you can even rent accommodation in the form of cottage rooms that have all the amenities you need. This is ideal if you want to drive around the area and have a place to come back to.

If you’re a cheese lover you can visit the South Caernarfon Creameries where tourists often come to enjoy a delicious stack of cheddar! They use milk from West and mid-Wales to make cheese that is left to mature for at least 11 months. There is also a cave tour for small groups where you can enjoy a sample afterward.

A small restaurant in North Wales, The Warren in Carmarthen, is one of the local award winners when it comes to popular restaurants. Originally formed with the help of a crowdfunding campaign, the restaurant focuses on sustainability and local sourcing. Here you enjoy a range of local cuisine along with popular cheese from the region.

The Grove in Narberth is another local restaurant that has a selection of artisan cheese, local fish, and lamb. It’s a great way to experience the best that North Wales has to offer.

Seren Retreat

We visited the Seren Retreat, this incredible glamping site with high hopes and were so pleased that they were met and exceeded. With a beautifully decorated warm yurt and six acres of ancient oak woodlands, two beautiful horses and some cheeky goats roaming around, what more can you ask for?

We popped out for one day to complete a 13-mile Macmillan hike and returned back to a magical experience – rain or shine, this place is an oasis of nature and natural beauty. We explored the woodlands and had bbq’s every day, a world away from busy city life.

We had a very peaceful and relaxing time, giving us time to reflect on life in our beautiful surroundings. On the Sunday after the hike we spent it in bed with the fireplace on and making marshmallow cakes, whilst it rained outside, it was quite a relaxing experience listening the rain fall onto the yurt.

Final thoughts: Makes you want to buy a farm and live in the wild the rest of your days. Sad to leave but excited to return.

What To Visit In The Gower Peninsula?

The Star Beaches

Here you can truly experience some of the most breathtaking beaches around. With towering cliffs and Worm’s Head situated on one end, and magnificent dunes on the other, there’s plenty to explore.

Paragliders often enjoy Rhossili Downs for it’s great ridge-soaring updrafts, while visitors flock to Three Cliffs Bay for its natural beauty. It’s not ideal for swimmers, so it’s best explored by foot.

There’s also the Pennard Pill river that cuts deep into the hillside before moving to the bay area close to Pennard Castle.

The Secret Beaches

Behind the beautiful Three Cliffs you’ll find Pobbles Bay, so it’s often a bit overlooked. It’s beautiful and ideal for anyone who wants to explore the absolute beauty of these beaches.

Mewslade Bay is tucked between Rhossili and Worm’s Head and is the least visited of all beaches and accessible after you manage to go over the dunes from the side of Broughton Bay from the northwest.

There are plenty of glamping sites nearby and this makes for the perfect getaway in the Gower Peninsula. The Seren Retreat is one of these and definitely stood out to us. It’s less than a 20-minute drive from Caswell Bay and offers a private meadow with an ancient oak woodland – pure magic! It’s right in the middle of the Gower Peninsula, near the Glamorgan beaches, with comfortable yurt accommodation.

If you’re in Oxford Bay, Wales, be sure to visit the Beach House, a AA Restaurant of the Year. Chef Griffith is an absolute master of local cuisine and uses fresh ingredients to prepare a host of dishes daily.

Another gem is the Cliff Restaurant in Gower, offering a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere with amazing seasonal and local dishes. It’s just a short walk from Three Cliffs Bay.

If you are in the mood for a family-friendly, traditional village pub, visit Beaufort Arms set in a stunning 600-year old building. It also has a children’s play area so it’s perfect for the whole family.
